Good day and welcome to my March 2025 New Music Mix Tape!
You’re listening to KMTJ-DB – Your Mix Tape Journey – Denver, Colorado.
I am your host, DJ Ponyboy, and I am proud to announce today’s tape is my fifty-third, marking one full year of weekly music collections curated just for you!
Every week I listen to 100 newly-released tunes and select the very best 5 to share with you; this month’s tape is on fire!
Jordan Hawkins is a North Carolina native, R&B singer, and very talented guitar player based in Los Angeles whose fantastic guitar work harkens back to the 80’s and reminds me of friend-of-the-channel guitarist Gary Clark Jr.
Jordan Hawkins, “Bustin’ out windows and breakin’ bedframes” in “Crazy” – you heard it first right here on KMTJ-DB – Denver, Colorado!
Friend of the channel GloRilla is an American rapper, singer, and dancer hailing from Memphis, Tennessee; she is touring, but unfortunately will not be coming through Colorado.
She joins unknown rapper Gelo for a collab that will make you get out of your chair and DANCE!
Gelo and GloRilla next with “Can You Please”.
Since my first mix tape I have listened to 5,700 songs, winnowing them down to only 285 of the very best that I have chosen to share with you over the last year. I dare you to listen to any one of my new music mix tapes, and then tell me there is no good new music!
A complaint I often hear is that music used to be good, but no longer is; if you believe that, you’re not listening hard enough! Our next two tracks are both retro AF and brand-new!
American funk/soul band Vulfpeck hails from Ann Arbor, Michigan, and has been active since 2011. Rocking a 70’s funk vibe paired with 90’s internet slang, and kicking off a double shot of retro music, enjoy Vulfpeck with “In Real Life” on KMTJ-DB, Denver.
Just As Long As We’re Together Lyrics
Sizzlin! Rising R&B artist Jalen Ngonda, whose influences include Marvin Gaye and Smokey Robinson with “Just As Long As We’re Together”. Ngonda is on tour, but will not be coming to Colorado.
Before that, Vulfpeck with “In Real Life”; they are performing at Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado on Saturday, July 5th, but unfortunately the show is already sold out. ☹️
Country music icon Dolly Parton was born in 1946 in a one-room cabin in Tennessee, and at age 20 married the love of her life.
Carl Dean, who ran an asphalt business in Nashville, Tennessee for decades, was a very private individual who shunned publicity and rarely accompanied Parton to public events. She stated he only saw her perform once; however, in interviews she said they would frequently spend time together privately.
Parton shared he would do spontaneous things to surprise her, sometimes even writing her poems. In 2016, they renewed their vows in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary.
On March 3, 2025, Dolly Parton announced Dean had passed away at the age of 82.
Shortly after that, she released our next track, a love letter to her late husband, “If You Hadn’t Been There” on KMTJ-DB, Denver, Colorado.
If You Hadn’t Been There Lyrics
I’m DJ Ponyboy and I’m not crying; you’re crying! 😭
Let’s dry our tears with a little dance music.
Thirty-seven-year-old American Leah Chisholm, who performs as LP Giobbi, is a classically-trained jazz pianist, DJ, and music producer known for her style of piano house music.
I dare you to listen to this next track and try to not move to the groove! It’s difficult to do!
LP Giobbi and “Galt”.
Galt is an instrumental track with no lyrics.
“Like a Lullaby” by California rock band Third Eye Blind; they are on tour, but will not be coming to Colorado.

Active since 2014, American country/pop singer-songwriter Ingrid Andress was born in Michigan, but grew up right here in Colorado. Though homeschooled for most of her education, she also attended Rock Canyon High School in Highlands Ranch.
Her next song addresses her younger siblings, singing, “You can follow my footprints, but you don’t gotta fill my shoes”.
I’m DJ Ponyboy and I dedicate this next tune to my two younger brothers.
Ingrid Andress with “Footprints”.
Ingrid Andress just performed at Globe Hall in Denver on April 3rd.
My Morning Jacket is an American rock band formed in Louisville, Kentucky; active since 1998, their sound, rooted in rock and country, is often experimental and psychedelic.
With a very catchy chorus (it’s been stuck in my head for days!), here is their newest track, “Half a Lifetime” on KMTJ-DB, Denver.
Scottish DJ Calvin Harris with his unique harmonica-based EDM track “Smoke the Pain Away”. Harris is on the road, but will not be coming to Colorado.

American blues, country, and Americana singer, guitarist, and songwriter Charley Crockett has released fifteen studio albums over the last decade. From his latest album, Lonesome Drifter, here is “Night Rider” on KMTJ-DB – Denver, Colorado.
Charley Crockett is coming to Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado Wednesday, July 25th. Get your tickets today!
I love when genres collide, and I love collaborations; great music is a team effort! Our next artists, American country musician Cody Johnson, and Mexican regional artist Carín León join to create a song greater than the sum of its parts.
Cody Johnson and Carín León with “She Hurts Like Tequila”.
“She Hurts Like Tequila” on KMTJ-DB – Your Mix Tape Journey – Denver, Colorado.
Speaking of artists collaborating, I say the more the merrier! Diverse artists Saba, No ID, Raphael Saadiq, and Kelly Rowland team up for this laid-back jam, “Crash”, kicking off a double-shot of chillaxing vibes.
American singer, songwriter, rapper, and record producer Jon Bellion was born and raised on Long Island in New York. Best known for his 2016 single “All Time Low,” we just heard his latest effort, “Wash”.
No matter what style of music you enjoy, I guarantee there are new artists releasing new music in that genre, era, zeitgeist, or vibe pool.
I’m DJ Ponyboy and I dare you to listen to any one of my new music mix tapes and then tell me there is no good new music!
Ryan Hurd is an American country music singer and songwriter who has written songs for other country artists, and is married to friend of the channel Maren Morris.
Next, he shares his story of meeting Paul McCartney, who was, “like Jеsus, but taller”.
Ryan Hurd and “Paul” on KMTJ-DB, Denver.
British actor and rapper Little Simz gifts nuggets of truth while floating us down a lazy river with the chill vibe and smooth flow of “Free”, next.
American singer-songwriter Maren Morris with “Carry Me Through” on KMTJ-DB – Denver, Colorado. While rooted in the country genre, her music features a unique blend of pop and R&B elements.
I’m DJ Ponyboy and I hope today I have been able to introduce you to a new artist, a new song, and/or a new album to fall in love with!
Make sure to join me next week as we kick off April’s theme of Koningsdag, featuring awesome Dutch music all month long to help you celebrate the national holiday of the Kingdom of the Netherlands – Koningsdag!
Closing out this month’s tape is Canadian punk rock band Pup, teaming up with Long Island punk musician Jeff Rosenstock to record new tune “Get Dumber”.
I’m DJ Ponyboy, sharing with you the very best new music and having more fun than a human being should be allowed to have.
