Good day! You are listening to KMTJ-DB – Your Mix Tape Journey – Denver, Colorado.

I’m your host, DJ Ponyboy – welcome to Side B of the Attitude of Gratitude 2024 Theme Mix Tape.  If you haven’t heard it yet, check out Side A next!

While our world right now can be a scary and dangerous place, and fear and hatred seems to destroy everything it touches, there are still so, so many things to be thankful for, and it is my aim today to remind you of some of them.

Kicking us off, it’s Sly and the Family Stone with “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)”!

Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) Lyrics

The incomparable Sly Stone (and family) banging it out; that song released in 1969! The United States was fighting a war in Vietnam, US President John F. Kennedy had just been assassinated the year before, the Stonewall riots occurred in New York City, there were earthquakes in Portugal, Spain, Morocco, and China, clashes between Soviet and Chinese forces, civil uprisings in Argentina, and the Zodiac Killer was on the loose in San Francisco.

There was a lot to be frightened of then, too; and some of the best music of the twentieth century was created in the midst of it. Take a few deep breaths, look for the helpers, ask what ways you can contribute, and we will get through this together.

What is that sound? That horrible sound? It sounds like … children … singing …

I’m DJ Ponyboy and this is The Juicebox Jukebox with “Thankful” on KMTJ-DB, Denver.

Thankful Lyrics

I’m DJ Ponyboy, and today I’m thankful for you. Yes, you. Thank you for being awesome, thank you for joining me today, and thank you for bringing a smile to my face every time we hang out together.

We will thrive if we stick together and remember to be thankful for every little thing. What are you thankful for today? Visit the Mix Tape Journeyers page on Facebook to share with me!

One of the most important things to be appreciative of is the amazing people who come into our lives and change them for the better. Please enjoy Mary Gauthier’s “Drag Queens in Limousines”, celebrating the power of friendship, on KMTJ-DB – Your Mix Tape Journey – Denver, Colorado.

Family can be another important influence in our lives. I dedicate this next song to my Mom, without whom I would not be the man I am today. Here is Mitch Ryder and “Thank You Mama”.

While I have heard our next song many times before, I am most familiar with Eminem’s sampling of the verses in his 2000 song “Stan”. Perhaps it is for this reason that I have always thought of the song as a sad and depressing song, never realizing how happy and hopeful the chorus actually is.

I’d like to dedicate this song to you – my listeners – as I join Dido in saying, “I want to thank you for giving me the best day(s) of my life; oh, just to be with you is having the best day of my life.”

I am DJ Ponyboy and this is Dido with “Thank You”.

Days Lyrics

The Kinks with “Days” from 1968. Dido before that with 2000’s “Thank You”.

All this flowery language is lovely, but actions speak louder than words.

Think of one person in your life that you are grateful for, and make it a goal today to share that with them; whether you make a simple effort like sending a text saying “Thank you for being in my life”, or a grand gesture like buying them something special or taking them on a trip, it is so beneficial – to us and those we are grateful for – to share our gratitude with each other.

We continue with more thankful music from the tumultuous 1960’s; it’s almost like gratitude is a balm that soothes the sting of dark days.

Please enjoy Led Zeppelin with 1969’s “Thank You” on KMTJ-DB, Denver.

I’m DJ Ponyboy and I think it is important to remember where we came from, practice humility, and remember no person is an island, and none of us made it where we are all on our own. We must work together to achieve anything of value in this life, and it’s important to share our rewards with those who helped us achieve them.

Here is Cole Swindell expressing his gratitude for “The Ones Who Got Me Here”.

American musician Bonnie Raitt has been active since 1971, and our next track was included on her very first album. Recorded at an empty summer camp on Enchanted Island on Lake Minnetonka in Minnesota, here is “Thank You” on KMTJ-DB, Denver, Colorado.

Skipping forward a few decades, but keeping with the very creative naming theme 😜, closing us out with a hit of nostalgia for those around my age, here is American vocal group Boyz II Men with 1994’s “Thank You”.

Thank You (Boyz II Men) Lyrics

Boyz II Men. “Thank You” for joining me today. I hope I was able to share a new song or two with you, hold some space, and make you feel a little bit better by helping appreciate how much we have to be thankful for.
