Good day and welcome to KMTJ-DB – Your Mix Tape Journey – Denver, Colorado! I’m your host, DJ Ponyboy. Today we are celebrating a spirit of gratitude and appreciation. While there is so, so much right now to be upset and angry and hurt about, there are still so many things to be thankful for, and it is my goal today to remind you of them.
Kicking us off with our first song, here is Nick Shoulders.
I’m DJ Ponyboy and if you’re doing your damn best, I “Appreciate’cha”.
Thank you for being awesome; we will make it if we stick together and remember to be grateful for every little thing. What are you grateful for today? I’m grateful for the amazing bass line of our next track. Enjoy Lauren Nikohl and “Grateful for This Day”.
Active from 2010-2019, American heavy metal supergroup Hellyeah included members from metal bands Mudvayne, Nothingface, Pantera, and Damageplan. Their song “Thank You” celebrates fallen family members of the band: Vinnie Paul’s brother, Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell, Tom Maxwell’s mother, and Chad Gray’s grandmother.
I’m DJ Ponyboy and this is Hellyeah with “Thank You” on KMTJ-DB, Denver Colorado.
“Gracias a la Vida” is a Spanish-language song written and composed by Chilean folk singer-songwriter Violeta Parra as a “humanist hymn” celebrating the joy of life and living. Released in 1966, shortly before her tragic death, this song reminds us to appreciate the little things that make life worth living.
“Thanks to life, which has given me so much. It gave me hearing that, in all of its reach, records night and day crickets and canaries, hammers and turbines, bricks and storms, and the tender voice of my beloved.”

While I expect most of my audience will recognize our next song, best known as the theme song to the American sitcom The Golden Girls, if you have never heard the full song outside of that context, you may not be familiar with the second verse, the extended Sgt. Pepper-esque breakdown in the middle, or the fun multi-part background singer harmonies throughout.
This song is dedicated to my “Best Fiends” group – Karly, Doug, Curtis, and Chaz – thank you for being my friends. Here is Andrew Gold with “Thank You for Being a Friend”.
“Thank You for Being a Friend”. Andrew Gold was a fantastically talented singer, songwriter, and musician who never fully received the recognition he deserved. His mother was singer Marni Nixon, who provided the singing voice for numerous actresses, including Natalie Wood in West Side Story, and Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady; and his father was an Austrian-born composer who won an Academy Award for his score to the 1960 movie Exodus.
Another fun fact is that Gold composed the popular children’s Halloween song “Spooky, Scary Skeletons”, featured on last month’s Happy Spoopy Season Halloween 2024 Mix Tape.
Our next artist expresses a sentiment I also share. Thank you for listening to me – DJ Ponyboy – right here on KMTJ-DB – Your Mix Tape Journey – Denver, Colorado – every Sunday.
You make my life brighter and I hope I am able return the favour.
Enjoy Colt Ford with Daniel Lee and “Thanks for Listening”.
My next song is dedicated to my husband Doug, who has been by my side for the last fifteen years. I love you and here’s to fifteen more! ❤️
Here is Bon Jovi and “Thank You for Loving Me”.
“Thank You for Loving Me”. I was introduced to that song by my “second parents”, Kelly and Troy; I’d also like to dedicate it to them, in appreciation of all the love they shared with me.
Described as the, “quintessential American power pop band”, Big Star drew influence from 60’s acts like the Beatles and the Byrds.
Echoing appreciation for those who share our lives, here is Big Star and “Thank You Friends” on KMTJ-DB, Denver.
Our next song was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song when featured in the 2014 romantic drama Beyond the Lights.
Sharing how we can be appreciative for even the bad things in our lives, enjoy British singer Rita Ora performing “Grateful”.
Thank you for joining me today for Side A of my Attitude of Gratitude Mix Tape; make sure to join me in two weeks for Side B!
Closing out Side A, here is ABBA sharing their gratitude for the gift of song in “Thank You for the Music” on KMTJ-DB, Denver, Colorado.
Thank you for being here and being amazing! I hope I was able to brighten your day a bit by reminding you of some of the things we still have to be grateful for.
