Good day! I am DJ Ponyboy and welcome back to KMTJ-DB – Your Mix Tape Journey – Denver, Colorado for the Countdown From 20 Theme Mix Tape: Side B. This is the reverse side of a mix tape already begun two weeks ago. If you have not yet heard Side A, you can flip the tape over here.
I know after hearing Side A and waiting two whole weeks to hear Side B you are excited and want to go straight to number one, but first, please take a moment to appreciate how awesome you are.
Yes, you. You are an amazing, beautiful human being with fantastic taste in music. Thank you for joining me for this mix tape.
I give you “10 Out of 10”, a collaboration between Australian singer Kylie Minogue and Dutch electronic music artist Oliver Heldens – now on KMTJ-DB Denver.
Our next tune was written by the legendary writing duo Leiber and Stoller. Originally recorded in 1959 by the Clovers who took it to #23 on the US charts, it was subsequently covered by the Searchers, Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, and the Coasters.
What smells like turpentine and looks like India ink? Well, “Love Potion #9”, of course!
The Searchers with their 1964 cover of “Love Potion #9”.
Our next tune, written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon, came out the very same year. Its unusual title has been credited to a chauffeur who drove McCartney. It also has the curious distinction of being the very first pop song to open with a fade-in.
Here are the Beatles with “Eight Days A Week” on KMTJ-DB, Denver.
Our next song was first recorded in 1966, but has since been covered numerous times by such artists as Alice Cooper, Robert Plant, Rush, The Bangles, Deep Purple, and others. Here are the Ramones with “7 and 7 Is”.

Continuing to count down and proceeding along our unintentional mini-theme of the 1960s, our next tune, written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, is about six friends growing up in the sixties.
Here is Sweet with their glam rock tune “The Six Teens”.
That song listed six names – two girls, and four boys – Julie, Johnnie, Suzy, Davey, Bobby, and Billy.
In our next song, containing multiple samples from an instrumental song of the same name – Mambo No. 5 – I count nine different women mentioned; do you know all their names?
Here is Lou Bega on KMTJ-DB – Your Mix Tape Journey – Denver, Colorado.
One of my favourite bands to see live is Chicago – I have seen them live three times – more than any other artist – and I will see them every time I have the chance and am able.
My first real introduction to them was when my best friend Eric invited me to the Clear County Fair in Pennsylvania to see them perform. Eric, our friend Candy, and I had a fantastic time enjoying the fair.
The evening ended with an amazing performance by Chicago, and while I’m sad Peter Cetera was not in attendance, it was one of the highlights of my life.
Please enjoy our next song as we count down to number one: “25 or 6 to 4”.
Only three more songs to go on our countdown to number one! Our next song is one of those most people know, but few know the title.
Here is Bob Marley & the Wailers with “Three Little Birds” on KMTJ-DB, Denver, Colorado.
I first heard this next song while watching the 2003 film Party Monster, starring Macauley Caulkin and Seth Green. Our penultimate tune on the way to number one, here is Stacey Q with “Two of Hearts”.
This sensual number from jazz pop ensemble Touch and Go was the inspiration for this entire mix tape. Its jazzy, sexy, rhythm gets stuck in my head and makes me want to listen to it on repeat while the room slowly spins with the tiny sparkles of a disco ball.
Here is “Straight to Number One” on KMTJ-DB – Your Mix Tape Journey – Denver, Colorado.
Thank you for joining me for this fun countdown!
I want to hear from you – what are your favourite songs with numbers in the title? Share them in a comment on our Facebook page, blog post, Instagram, or our Discord server (access via our Patreon page for as little as $3 a month), and perhaps they will show up in a future mix tape!
Until next time, I’m DJ Ponyboy. Stay gold.
