Good day!
Welcome to KMTJ-DB – Your Mix Tape Journey – Denver, Colorado.
I’m your host, DJ Ponyboy.
This month we have been exploring songs with themes of Summer and Water. Make sure to check out Sides A (Summer By the Water) and B (Summer On the Water), but today we enjoy the exciting conclusion, Side C: Summer In the Water.
Kicking us off is Dutch band Vengaboys, a Dutch band recently featured on the Connections Mix Tape from April 2025; here, they bring us a song with a subject surprisingly common throughout today’s tape – the Vengaboys on KMTJ-DB, – Denver, Colorado kicking off a musical Summer-in-the-Water double-shot with “Skinnydippin’”!
The venerable Beach Boys with “Surfin’ USA”. The Vengaboys before that with “Skinnydippin’”.
We’ve heard summer tunes from the Beach Boys before on last year’s A Very Oldies Summer Mix Tape, and founding member Brian Wilson (RIP) was featured on my February 2025 Connections Mix Tape.
Country artist Brad Paisley tells us in his 2009 song all about his saucy love affair with “Water” on KMTJ-DB, Denver.
If you’re keeping track, that’s our second song with a skinny-dipping reference (when Brad sings, “and it won’t take long ’til you and her got nothin’ on but water”).
Creating music from Michigan, our next artist, modern Americana rock band Breathe Owl Breathe.
Keeping our theme of Summer In the Water (and references to skinny-dipping) going, here is Breathe Owl Breathe with “Swimming” on KMTJ-DB – Your Mix Tape Journey – Denver, Colorado.
Our next song had to grow on me, reminding us that while first impressions are important, they aren’t everything.
I’m DJ Ponyboy and here is Loudon Wainwright III with 1973’s “The Swimming Song”.
Loudon Wainwright III and “The Swimming Song”. That song is not about swimming, and brings our skinny-dip counter up to four!

Join me next month as we explore the musical theme of adventure; along the way I will share more information about my upcoming line of Adventure Journals fashioned around my most popular mix tapes.
But first, let’s allow the Beatles to take us under the sea to an “Octopus’s Garden”.
For some reason I had the hardest time finding the right tracks for this side of the mix tape.
My next two picks are unique – the first uses swimming as a metaphor, and the second is an instrumental.
I’m DJ Ponyboy and kicking off another musical Summer-in-the-Water double-shot is Colorado DJ Disco Lines partnering with Connecticut singer, songwriter, and record producer Felly on “Swim” on KMTJ-DB – Your Mix Tape Journey – Denver, Colorado.
Splashin’ is an instrumental tune without lyrics
Saxophonist Maceo Parker hails from North Carolina. We heard his instrumental jazz saxophone tune “Splashin’”. Disco Lines and Felly before that with “Swim”.
Thank you so much for joining me today. I hope you enjoyed our time together – I know I did!
Closing out today’s mix tape, Side C of this month’s Summer & Water theme, Summer In the Water, is country group Little Big Town with their 2016 tune, “Skinny Dippin’”.
Thank you for joining me today.
